Tourists' perception of venues offering elephant rides and shows is changing. Demand is increasing for venues where elephants behave naturally and their welfare is ensured.
A research conducted to verify tourist perceptions of wildlife entertainment in Thailand, demonstrated a negative perception of tourist for elephant venues offering activities that may have include elephant rides and shows, due to concern for the elephants' wellbeing. As a result, the corporate travel industry is changing its offers towards venues where elephants can behave naturally in places as similar as possible to their original, wild habitat.
Such changes in tourism demand make it necessary for elephant venues to transition away from conventional practices towards so-called 'elephant-friendly' alternatives.
This conference brings together elephant venues and international travel corporates to talk about the changing trends and how to ensure the elephant venues can ensure their businesses in the future by riding to the tourists' demands.
